Per le mie consuetudini, lo spazio della galleria G7 \u00e8 il luogo meno adatto per lavorare con una videoproiezione. Troppa luce con la porta a vetri direttamente affacciata sulla strada. Una sala che \u00e8 anche un luogo di passaggio per accedere all’ufficio. Dimensioni quasi quadrate: la distanza di proiezione non sarebbe stata ottimale, se non con ottiche che non potevo utilizzare. L’unica parete su cui desideravo proiettare \u00e8 un muro mediavale, leggermente curvo e inclinato.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Da quella installazione ho anche tratto un video autonomo, fruibile anche al di fuori del suo spazio. Al contrario di quella prima esperienza, \u00e8 il livello dell\u2019acqua a essere \u201cfuori squadro\u201d, non ortogonale, non naturale. Un liquido non uniforme, che viene deformato e deforma le pareti stesse del \u201cwhite cube\u201d in cui \u00e8 contenuto. A parte la piccola scala sommersa, nessuna presenza umana \u00e8 possibile in questa scena.
\nLa traccia audio alterna suoni di vento a brani di un compositore francese, Olivier Messiaen, che cos\u00ec veniva descritto dal regista russo Aleksandr Sokurov: \u201cA volte, quando ascolto Messiaen, non mi sembra di ascoltare la musica, ma lo strumento che crea da solo. Non c\u2019\u00e8 il compositore, ma solo una stanza vuota, il pianoforte, e il suono.\u201d<\/p>\n<\/div>\n\n\n\n

The \u201cStudio G7\u201d art gallery in Bologna (Italy) has a pretty challenging space for videos, since it\u2019s a narrow, small and almost square room, with ancient and uneven medieval walls. Projecting a video onto these walls promised to be a real nightmare, so I decided to enhance the site-specific characteristics, working on purpose on a distorted projection and including the stream of water that naturally flowed under the ancient gallery walls (the Aposa stream).
\nThe result was a site-specific video projection, as sloping as the walls, showing a room identical to the art gallery screening space. A room within a room, filled with water and a deforming \u201cperspective box\u201d. Ancient and clammy walls submerged by water; constantly changing, bending and deforming in time (a whispering and windy sound as its soundtrack).<\/p>\n\n\n\n

From that experience, I derived an autonomous video art work. where it\u2019s the water level to be disjointed, not orthogonal, not natural anymore. A heterogeneous liquid, deformed by the white cube moving walls. Besides the small submerged steps, there is no human intervention or presence.
The audio track is a mix of different wind gusts echoing in the hollow space and a piece from Olivier Messiaen, a French composer. The Russian film director Aleksandr Sokurov said about him: “Sometimes, when I listen to Messiaen, it seems to me that I am not listening to music but to the instrument tuning up all by itself. There is no composer, just a piano in an empty room, and the sound.” Once again, no human interventions.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
